Your Impact at Arrakis

The mission of Arrakis Therapeutics is to extend small molecule medicines into new realms of biology by discovering and developing compounds that selectively target RNA (“rSM”). By targeting distinct RNA structure/function relationships, Arrakis is generating drug candidates with novel mechanisms of action for molecular targets that are challenging to drug in disease areas with high unmet medical need. 

 

The growing Arrakis Compound Management group is looking for a Research Associate to join the team. They will provide daily support to Arrakis scientists across many departments, using state-of-the-art laboratory automation equipment and software to prepare compound plates in a wide variety of formats. The role also involves working closely with Medicinal Chemists to routinely procure new compounds from multiple vendors. Arrakis Compound Management capabilities are expanding in 2021 and beyond, providing the successful candidate with opportunities for career growth and personal initiative. The ideal candidate will be excited to work with lab automation and deliver high quality samples with a focus on transparent and prompt communication to scientists, in a constantly evolving environment.

Job Responsibilities:

 

• Work closely with manager to establish a state-of-the-art compound management capability at Arrakis, and to contribute to the success of Arrakis drug discovery efforts
• Fulfill compound requests for Single-point and Dose Response assay ready plates on Echo
• Fulfill compound requests for tube-to-plate and plate-to-plate transfers on Tecan
• Solubilize DMSO stock solutions of compounds in tubes on Tecan
• Process procurement requests – obtain quotes from vendors and purchase compounds to incorporate into the Arrakis library
• Store and retrieve compound stock solution tubes from automated ComPOUND tube storage unit
• Participate in weekly meetings with external compound management collaborator
• Adhere to established SOPs and consistently meet service level agreements for order delivery turnaround time
• Perform routine QC of automated liquid handlers using plate reader according to SOP; log and report technical issues that arise
• Execute QC of liquid samples using LCMS
• Act in accordance with all Arrakis policies including the laboratory safety policy

Requirements:

 

• B.S. in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or Biomedical Engineering with 1-2+ years’ experience working in a fast-paced industry lab environment
• Hands on experience with common laboratory operations, compound management processes, inventory management, and lab automation
• Experience with Tecan, Beckman Echo, ComPOUND automated tube store, and/or Titian Mosaic web-based sample management software is a plus
• Experience using Microsoft Excel
• Customer service oriented with a high level of attention to detail
• Friendly, professional, and transparent communication with scientists, and internal and external partners
