Your Impact at Arrakis

The mission of Arrakis Therapeutics is to extend small molecule medicines into new realms of biology by discovering and developing compounds that selectively target RNA (“rSM”). By targeting distinct RNA structure/function relationships, Arrakis is generating drug candidates with novel mechanisms of action for molecular targets that are challenging to drug in disease areas with high unmet medical need. Identifying functional elements of the transcriptome that can be targeted by rSMs and establishing mechanism of action requires integrating data across multiple sources.

This role will lead efforts to extract and integrate biological insights from various types of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data. Leveraging your deep knowledge of data science tools and expertise with large biological datasets, you will drive innovative science to deliver novel therapeutics to patients. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a collaborative, fast-paced start-up environment, leveraging a high degree of scientific rigor, creativity and innovation. 


Job Responsibilities:


  • Lead projects validating biological hypotheses and subsequently develop resources and technologies leveraging this knowledge to advance and accelerate therapeutic programs
  • Contribute to the design of multi-disciplinary strategies for deploying state-of-the-art technologies for addressing business and scientific needs through-out the company
  • Work with Scientists and Engineers to develop and maintain robust analysis pipelines and analyses of both internal and public datasets
  • Develop and manage tools and apps for interactive visualization of large datasets.
  • Potentially supervise associate scientists or Ph.D. scientists.
  • Work effectively in a cross-functional capacity with the RNA biology, bioinformatics, assay development and chemistry teams to deliver high-quality results in an efficient manner.
  • Record, communicate, and present experimental outcomes effectively across the organization.



  • Ph.D. in Computational Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or related field
  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience required; people management experience a plus.
  • Extensive expertise in common programing and scripting languages (python, R, Perl, C++, etc.)
  • Experience with relational databases (Postgres, MySQL, etc.) and/or app interfaces to databases (Django, etc.)
  • Demonstrated expertise in analysis of multiple types of NGS data (such as RNA-seq, Ribo-seq, CAGE-seq, SHAPE-MaP, etc.)
  • Experience writing, testing, and maintaining version-controlled software
  • Familiarity with key concepts and computational tools related to RNA structure, alternative splicing, translation, or other areas of RNA biology is a plus
  • Working knowledge of statistical methods and models.
  • Excellent Written and verbal communication skills
  • Exhibits passion and excitement over work. Has a can-do attitude without losing objectivity
  • Adjusts quickly to changing priorities and conditions and copes effectively with complexity and change
