Your Impact at Arrakis


The mission of Arrakis Therapeutics is to extend small molecule medicines into new realms of biology by discovering and developing compounds that selectively target RNA (“rSM”). By targeting distinct RNA structure/function relationships, Arrakis is generating drug candidates with novel mechanisms of action for molecular targets that are challenging to drug in disease areas with high unmet medical need. 


The Head of Cellular Screening has the unique opportunity to create a vision and implement strategy that will make a major impact on the emerging RNA/rSM field. The successful candidate will report to the SVP Discovery and lead a group of up to 6 scientists and/or associate scientists. The remit of this group is to enable validation, automation, and execution of new cell-based assays in support of Arrakis programs.  


The ideal candidate is a strong leader and skilled manager and will enjoy working in a collaborative, fast-paced start-up environment, leveraging a high degree of problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to make a large impact on our mission.   


Managerial responsibilities:


  • Create the vision for and develop a state-of-the-art cellular screening capability at Arrakis
  • Establish and manage workflows for cell-based assay screening that provide high-quality, timely data to discovery programs and integrate the latest technology advances.
  • Develop and maintain the group’s infrastructure to ensure optimal use of resources with the cell screening function.
  • Lead a group of up to 6 direct or indirect reports. Provide coaching and leadership to facilitate effective solutions for direct reports, projects and the functional area.
  • Member of the Arrakis Senior Management Team. Actively participate in cross functional discussions to review, prioritize and advance Arrakis R&D portfolio.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment across research functions.




  • MSc or PhD in biological sciences
  • 10+ years of applicable industry experience with an excellent scientific track record
  • Expert in compound screening formats, especially plate-based cell assays (HiBit, HTRF, Alpha Screen, qRT-PCR, MSD). Proficient with laboratory instrumentation and automation, data analysis and management.
  • Sound knowledge of the drug discovery process
  • Proven track record in establishing new technologies and scientific excellence in an industry setting
  • Experience as a supervisor and coach of multiple scientists
  • Experience in leading a cross-functional team in an industry setting is desirable
