The mission of Arrakis Therapeutics is to extend small molecule medicines into new realms of biology by discovering and developing compounds that selectively target RNA (“rSM”). By targeting distinct RNA structures to affect function, Arrakis is generating drug candidates with novel mechanisms of action for molecular targets that are challenging to drug in disease areas with high unmet medical need. Identifying functional elements of the transcriptome that can be targeted by rSM’s and establishing mechanism of action requires integrating data across multiple sources, so computational biology and bioinformatics are critical parts of the Arrakis platform. 


 


This role will lead efforts to extract biological insights from various types of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data. Leveraging your deep knowledge of next-generation sequencing analysis, data science tools, and biological expertise, you will drive innovative science to deliver novel therapeutics to patients. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a collaborative, fast-paced start-up environment, leveraging a high degree of scientific rigor, creativity and innovation.  


 


Job Responsibilities:


 


  • Build and advance various internal NGS pipelines (e.g. RNAseq, eCLIP, DMS-MaP, etc.) and computational resources to enable therapeutic target selection and program advancement following best practices for software development
  • Identify, internalize, and analyze data from public resources (SRA, TCGA, CCLE, etc.) and the scientific literature
  • Leverage data science tools to analyze and derive insights from high-dimensional datasets
  • Lead projects validating biological hypotheses and subsequently leverage this knowledge to advance and accelerate therapeutic programs
  • Work effectively in a cross-functional capacity with the RNA biology, bioinformatics, assay development and chemistry teams to deliver high-quality results in an efficient manner
  • Record, communicate, and present experimental outcomes effectively across the organization


 


Requirements:


 


  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computational Sciences or related Biological Science, with proven scientific excellence as evidenced by a strong publication record
  • 3+ years of relevant experience required; industry experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in design, execution, and analysis of biological NGS experiments
  • Extensive experience with at least one bioinformatic programming or scripting language (python, R, perl, etc.)
  • Experience applying computational and statistical approaches (e.g. multivariate, Bayesian, and machine learning) to high-dimensional datasets to deliver biological insights 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience writing, testing, and maintaining version-controlled software in a cloud-based system is preferred
  • Experience in the field of RNA biology is preferred
  • Exhibits passion and excitement over work. Has a can-do attitude without losing objectivity
  • Adjusts quickly to changing priorities and conditions and copes effectively with complexity and change
