Your Impact at Arrakis

The mission of Arrakis Therapeutics is to extend small molecule drug discovery into new realms of biology by discovering and developing compounds that selectively target RNA. By targeting specific RNA structure/function relationships, Arrakis will generate drug candidates with novel mechanisms of action for high-value molecular targets that are challenging to address via traditional approaches in therapeutic indications with high unmet medical need. 


We are seeking an Associate Scientist/Senior Associate Scientist in the RNA Biology team to support the identification of therapeutic intervention points in RNA biology and the discovery and mechanistic understanding of novel small molecule modulators of RNA targets. This position requires proficiency in mammalian cell biology methodologies and strong experience in nucleic acid molecular biology methodologies. Job Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the identification of broad-based and target-specific therapeutic intervention points in RNA biology, proof-of-concept validation of therapeutic MOAs, and mechanistic understanding of small molecule therapeutic candidates
  • Work with RNA biology team scientists to identify and implement novel technologies to understand RNA biology and the impact of therapeutic interventions
  • Independently design, execute, and interpret low- and medium-throughput cell-based assays with cell biology/molecular biology readouts
  • Work effectively in a cross-functional capacity with the RNA biochemistry, informatics, biology, and chemistry teams to deliver high-quality results in an efficient manner
  • Document, communicate, and present experimental outcomes effectively across the organization
  • Work with Arrakis colleagues and leadership to ensure that project goals are met



  • BS. in Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences or related field with 5+ years of industry experience or M.S. in related field with 3+ years of industry experience
  • Expertise in tissue culture, including a demonstrated ability to culture and maintain cell lines and design and execute well-controlled cell-based experiments
  • Experience with cell transfection techniques and lentiviral production/infection is strongly preferred
  • Experience with cell-based reporter systems is strongly preferred (e.g. luciferase, GFP)
  • Experience with nucleic acid molecular biology methodologies is strongly preferred (e.g. NGS, qPCR, plasmid construct design, RIP)
  • Ability to effectively communicate methodologies and results with management and colleagues
  • Proactive and efficient to enable high-quality results while fostering a positive work environment
  • Exhibits passion and excitement over work. Has a can-do attitude without losing objectivity.
  • Adjusts quickly to changing priorities and conditions and copes effectively with complexity and change.
