Senior Scientist, Cellular Screening

Do you have the passion to join a group whose mission is to pioneer the discovery of a new class of medicines to treat diseases unaddressed by today’s therapies?  Does it excite you to be a part of a company with a focus on cancer and genetically-validated targets in other disease areas with unmet medical need?  If yes, you may be a great fit to join Arrakis on our path to bring powerful new therapies to millions of patients.

Your Impact at Arrakis

The mission of Arrakis Therapeutics is to extend small molecule medicines into new realms of biology by discovering and developing compounds that selectively target RNA (“rSM”). By targeting distinct RNA structure/function relationships, Arrakis is generating drug candidates with novel mechanisms of action for molecular targets that are challenging to drug in disease areas with high unmet medical need.

The Senior Scientist will develop and execute new cell-based assays for medium-high throughput screening and manage external CRO resources.

Leveraging your deep knowledge of cellular screening to drive innovative science to deliver novel therapeutics to patients will allow you to have a major impact on our mission.  The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a collaborative, fast-paced start-up environment, leveraging a high degree of integrity, creativity and innovation.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop, validate, implement and execute miniature assays for medium-high throughput screening.
  • Design, develop, and/or implement robust plate-based cellular assays suitable for the identification, characterization and optimization of compounds. These assays should enable project teams to develop structure-activity relationships as part of the overall hit-to-lead process.
  • Oversee external management of assays at CROs.
  • Analyze and report data from 100-1000s of small molecule candidates on a routine basis and report progress to team.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship, to facilitate effective solutions and opportunities for growth, as needed.

Requirements:

  • PhD in biological sciences with 5+ years of industry experience preferred.  MS in biological sciences with 10+ years of industry experience will also be considered.
  • Experience with compound screening formats, laboratory instrumentation and automation, data analysis and management, and a sound knowledge of the drug discovery process.
  • Expert knowledge in plate-based cell assays (HiBit, FRET, Alpha Screen, qRT-PCR, MSD).
  • Proven track record for striving for high level of innovation and scientific excellence.
  • Ability to adjust quickly to changing priorities and conditions and to cope effectively with complexity and change.
  • Proactive and efficient to enable high-quality results while ensuring optimal use of resources within assigned program(s).
  • Fosters a positive and collaborative work environment across research functions.
