The mission of Arrakis Therapeutics is to extend small molecule drug discovery into new realms of biology by discovering and developing compounds that selectively target RNA. By targeting specific RNA structure/function relationships, Arrakis will generate drug candidates with novel mechanisms of action for high-value molecular targets that are challenging to address via traditional approaches in therapeutic indications with high unmet medical need. 

 

High-throughput mass spectrometry for quantitative compound RNA binding assays and quantitative proteomic-based mechanism of action assays are core platforms at Arrakis.  The candidate will be integral part of the Biophysics team and be required to have a broad knowledge of mass spectrometry as applied to RNA characterization, small molecule screening, PKDM and proteomic applications in order to support and expand the company’s capabilities in the near term and future.  The ideal candidate will enjoy a collaborative multidisciplinary start-up environment with integrity and innovation being central to our culture and mission.  This is an opportunity to contribute to a cutting-edge drug discovery platform and fulfill a vital high impact function in our fast-growing company.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Coordinate priorities with Chemistry, RNA production and Compound Management to establish and schedule timelines for the execution and delivery of compound binding data for new and ongoing RNA target programs.
  • Design and execute high-throughput binding assays on a routine basis in support of established project teams.
  • Design, validate and execute high-throughput small molecule library screens on RNA target candidates.
  • Design, validate and execute on targeted as well as global mechanism of action cellular assays using quantitative proteomic multiplexing assays.
  • Evaluate and implement new assay platforms to meet the needs of project teams including, intact mass analysis of large RNA targets and PKDM-related assays.
  • Contribute to enhancing overall automation, data processing and data base uploading efficiencies across all platforms.
  • Provide exceptional maintenance and technical trouble shooting for a suite of LC-Orbitrap mass spectrometers.

 

Requirements:

 

  • B.S. in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field with 7+ years of industry experience; M.S. with 5+ years of industry experience; or Ph.D. with 1+ years of industry experience.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate across a multidisciplinary team consisting of Chemistry, Biophysics, Biology, Bioinformatics and Structural Biology.
  • Exceptional instrument hygiene and in-depth trouble shooting abilities.
  • Extensive experience working with small molecule and/or proteomic mass spectrometry from complex matrices.
  • Experience with multi-dimensional chromatography using micro- and nano-flow methods.
  • Proficiency in TraceFinder, Compound Discoverer, Chromeleon, Xcalibur, Proteome Discoverer, BioPharma or related data processing software applications.
  • Proactive and efficient to enable high-quality results while fostering a positive productive work environment and peer comradery.
  • Exhibits passion and excitement over work. Has a can-do attitude without losing objectivity.
  • Adjusts quickly to changing priorities and conditions and copes effectively with complexity and change.
